A hacker in the US admitted to the accusation of taking over Twitter accounts of famous people and companies for Bitcoin fraud. In the fraud operation led by a hacker named Graham Ivan Clark, his foundings such as Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Barack Obama were seized.
When Clark was 17, he agreed to be sentenced to 3 years in agreement with the Florida prosecutor for the crime he committed. During the incident on July 15, a series of Bitcoin-related messages were simultaneously sent from the captured accounts.
For example, the sharing from Apple's account, one of the largest companies in the world, was "We support Bitcoin and we believe you should support it. Every bitcoin you send to the account below will be credited back to your account".
Bill Gates's account also shared the message "You send $ 1000, I'll send you $ 2000". In this fraud, which was made using the accounts of famous names, it was ensured that a Bitcoin donation of 117 thousand dollars was made at the value of that period. After the incident, Twitter shares lost around 4 percent.
Twitter employee faked it
Acknowledging his guilt, Clark's lawyer said that the money obtained through the fraud was transferred to the authorities to be returned to the victims. Allegedly, Clark was able to break into the system, pretending to be a Twitter employee, and commit the heist along with his two accomplices.
Nima Fazeli, 22, and Mason Sheppard, 19, were also charged in the case. It is stated that IIvan Clark, who has been in prison for 229 days, can spend the rest of his sentence in a training camp due to the crime he committed at an underage age. Clark's access to computers will be subject to permission from security forces for his crime.
